Advanced Play
Sentinels of the Multiverse involves three to five players and follows the gameplay rules set out in this book. While the number of Heroes and Villains included with the game creates a wide variety of replay opportunities, advanced players may wish to consider some or all of the following options.
Each of the Villain character cards has an “Advanced Mode” rule on each side. Experienced players may play with one or both of these rules during a game for increased difficulty. Please note that the Advanced options, especially when using both in the same game, are not considered “balanced” play. These options give the Villains distinct advantages, and are not for the faint of heart.
Certain Hero combinations are more or less challenging when pitted against a particular Villain. These combinations are left to be discovered by the players, but in general, Citizen Dawn and Grand Warlord Voss are more difficult Villains for most Hero teams than Baron Blade or Omnitron.
The game is optimized for four players, but three or five player teams make relatively little difference in game difficulty. Two experienced players can play a two player version of the game if one or both of the players play as two Heroes each.
