Sentinels of the Multiverse! A comic book flavored cooperative card game by Greater Than Games!

Conflict Resolution

Over the course of a game, there are situations in which the effects of multiple cards take place simultaneously or have competing effects.  In all situations, card effects that happen simultaneously take effect in the order in which the cards were played.

Example 1: at the end of Citizen Dawn’s Villain turn, she deals the Hero with the highest HP 2 energy damage.  Citizen Battery is in play, and, at the end of the Villain turn, he deals the Hero with the highest HP 3 energy damage.  In this game, Haka currently has the most HP, at 28, so he takes the 2 from Citizen Dawn, as Dawn was in play before Battery.  This drops Haka to 26 HP, and now Legacy, who currently has 27 HP, has the highest HP.  Therefore, Legacy takes the 3 damage from Citizen Battery.

Example 2: The Megalopolis Environment card “Cramped Quarters Combat” is played, converting all damage to melee damage, and increasing all damage by 1.  In the next round, Ra’s player plays “Imbued Fire”, which increases all damage dealt by Heroes by 1, and converts all damage dealt by Heroes to fire damage.  Thus, all damage dealt by Heroes is first converted to melee and increased by 1, then increased again by 1 and converted to fire.  Subsequently, the final damage dealt is increased by a total of 2 and is fire damage.

Additionally, there are times when players may encounter ambiguous situations.  In any ambiguous situation, the players choose the outcome.

Example 1: Baron Blade plays “Slash and Burn” dealing the Hero with the lowest HP 4 melee damage and the Hero with the highest HP 6 fire damage.  Absolute Zero and The Wraith are currently tied for highest HP at 23 HP each.  After brief consideration, the players decide that the 6 fire damage should be dealt to Absolute Zero.

Example 2: The Visionary’s player plays “Psychic Maelstrom”, dealing all non-Hero targets 2 psychic damage.  Grand Warlord Voss and 3 of his minions are in play, so the players choose to deal the damage to each of the minions first, and then to Voss.
